I have a small window in my lower right hand corner.

Title is" Rhapsody NEW MUSIC ALERTS"

Anyone know what that is and why I'd might want it or want to get rid of it?

If I decide to get rid of it anyone know how to do that?

Thanks

Either uninstall Rhapsody or go into their preferences and stop it from
loading with Windows.

Ever hear of a small tech outfit named Google? They have a really useful
service on the Internet that enables anyone to find out information
about almost anything.

Rhapsody is a subscription music service. It comes preinstalled (but
usually not activated) on many "brand name" computers. You must have
signed up for the service at some point and set up a request to be
notified when some artist(s) released new music.

If you don't want it, unsubscribe and/or uninstall the software using
Control Panel > Add & Remove Software

Thanks, I had no idea what it was.

You installed it. Perhaps you chose an express install whereas a
custom install would let you deselect this component. Or, at some
point in the install, you were presented with a screen of "extras" to
install other than the program and you didn't read that page and simply
clicked Next. Or someone else installed it that you let use your
computer and to whom you allowed to have admin privileges for their
account, or you let someone share your own admin-level account. Be
careful as to WHAT you choose to install. When presented with the
option, always choose a custom install.

Always read those install
prompts to make sure you deselect any crapware or fluffware that they
want to install on your computer (they get paid for installing that
crap, like Yahoo toolbars or making Google the default search engine,
and why they add that crap to their install, but it is usually optional
- provided you actually look at the install screens). And don't share
your login or give admin-level accounts to other users unless you want
to give them the same power in controlling what gets installed on your
computer (i.e., they can install anything just like you can).

I must have agreed to install it. Probably when Real got installed.

I noticed on the real.com site that they prominantly announce their
alliance with Rhapsody. In a virtual machine, I downloaded and
installed their free RealPlayer to see if Rhapsody was included. The
only fluffware that I saw during the install was the option (enabled by
default) to install the Google Toolbar (which I deselected). When the
installation was done, I didn't see any entry in Add/Remove Programs
applet for Rhapsody (which apparently you saw to get it uninstalled). I
don't use RealPlayer so I didn't bother digging around in its options to
see if something included in their software would initiate opening a
Rhapsody account and loading their alert monitor. So while RealPlayer
seems a likely candidate, it doesn't look like RealPlayer installs
Rhapsody. There might be a different Real download that incorporates
Rhapsody with RealPlayer. I don't know what they shove in their Plus
(paid) version of RealPlayer. After all, RealNetworks is the parent for
both Real.com and Rhapsody.com. That's why Rhapsody shows up in
RealPlayer's Media Guide and links to Rhapsody in their Real Guide page
(the default page shown in RealPlayer unless you configure otherwise).
If I used RealPlayer, I'd set it to default to the Now Playing page so I
wouldn't have to see all their spam-ridden pages.

No I did not see a Rhapsody entry, so I uninstalled Real and the Rhapsody
popup also went away.

I did see a .dll in a Real directory that I think was a rhapsody plugin.

Anyway, I nolonger have a problem.

Installing into a virtual machine sounds like a smart way to test things.

Thanks for so much effort
