OK. I'm kinda new to these newsgroups.

Out of sheer curiosity, why do some people have [MVP] beside their name?

Do they work for Microsoft or is it a bot title?

I'm not an MVP a VIP nor do I have ESP.
I was just trying to help.

Not a 'bot, and they don't work for MS, they're just "recognized" for
assistance. I'm sure one of 'em will be answering here with a link to MS's
definition, which I don't have handy at the moment....

Please, lose the HTML. Unless you're posting to a group where it's
specifically allowed (and that's restricted to a very few binary groups)
Usenet is plain-text only.

It is an award that is earned annually.

Hope this is the information you were looking for.

It's an award given by Microsoft to those that kiss MS's ass, and spread
MS's FUD. While many of the MVPs are computer savvy, when it comes to the
world outside of that of Microsoft, they generally are totally out of touch
with reality.

They do not get paid, but do receive certain perks, and it is a title for
the being good little MicroBots.

And those using Linux are not bowing to the great Torvaldd, and SUN, and
IBM? Give me a break!

It stands for Most Venomous Poster. Cerridwen falls into this category.

There are no Linux MS-MVPs. I don't think you need a break, but a brain.

Linus Torvald developed the Linux kernel, hundreds and thousands of
others have developed Linux distributions and applications around that
kernel. You need to read up on GNU/Linux and Open Source.

IBM does not "own" Linux but develops its "version" of Linux for their
servers, and SCO (Sun) doesn't produce Linux but Unix.

Get your facts straight.
