What is minimum free space for data drive?

Our File server has 8 Gig free out of 60 Gig capacity (13% free) on a
RAID array that is used for data storage only (Windows 2000 Server is
on separate mirrored drives). Can anyone tell me how low our data
drive can go without having problems?

Also, what kinds of errors/problems are we likely to see?

I'm trying to convince management that we need to replace this server.

(The RAID drives are Ultra 3 SCSI if that makes any difference).

Thanks

You can use it until there is 0 free space. You *may* have problems
defragging it but it can be done.
You will see an error about not enough space if you try to add a file that
is larger than the existing free space.

If data is the only thing on that drive you really don't have a problem that
needs to be solved by getting a new server. If you run out of space you can
easily add another hard drive to the server, divide the data up between the
two drives.

This is a matter of taste. I like to plan ahead rather than putting
out fires, hence when one of my disks is more than 80% full then
I take appropriate action.

Thanks! (I also should have mentioned that the server is 5 years old
which is the other reason I want to replace it)
