What is HotFix

I was recently lookin through my "Add/Remove Programs"
and I saw all of these...Windows XP HotFix KB824105...
programs and I am not sure what they are.

I clicked on one of them and clicked remove and a pop up
came up and said all of the following programs (ie.
excel, outlook...) may not work a 100% properly if
deleted. I am just curious what it is and if anyone can
help.
Thanks,
Concerned Home Computer.

Hotfixes are mini patches (more than likely security patches) that are
downloaded and installed from performing Windows Updates. If you are not
experiencing problems, I recommend that you keep them in place.

You should not be tempted to "uninstall" any "Hotfixes" listed in the
Add or Remove Programs section. They are listed there in the event
your computer does not function properly after Windows Updates have been
installed. Uninstalling them will uninstall the actual patches which were
downloaded and installed from the Windows Update website.

If you wish to safely remove the "uninstall files" for the
Hotfixes (i.e. $NtUninstallQxxxxxx$ files shown in Windows Explorer)
and cleanup your Add/Remove Programs list, visit MS-MVP Doug Knox's
excellent website for instructions.

Remove Hotfix Backup files and the Add/Remove Programs Registry entries
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_hotfix_backup.htm

Note: Doug's program only removes the uninstall files and Hotfix entries
in the Add/Remove Programs listing. It does not remove the
actual updates.

Why would you even think about removing something you're
not sure of? Do you know how many people post problems
in this newsgroup because they did something without
considering the consequences?

Be careful !!!!

Just a word of caution.

These are the critical updates (mostly security-oriented) that
you've been downloading all along. Do not remove these, or you
will put back the security exposures they were designed to fix.
You can however delete their backup files. See
