Slow computer and "Hotfix"

L

Laura

My computer is brand new. Dell. The kids share it too.
I have LOTS of memory.... Why is it so slow? We did have
cable for a short time. Now that it has been cancelled,
the dial-up is at "crash" mode.

I looked at some programs to delete and noticed that
Windows XP Hotfix was listed 17 times. What is that
anyway? I wanted to delete them but they all warn that
some programs will not run if I do. (Each one listed the
same programs that would fail.) Is there a way to make
the system work properly again? .... and what will happen
if I do delete these:

Windows HP Hotfix KB821557
Windows HP Hotfix KB823559
Windows HP Hotfix KB823980
Windows HP Hotfix KB824105
Windows HP Hotfix KB824146
Windows HP Hotfix (SP2) [see Q329834 for more info]
Windows HP Hotfix (SP2) Q328310
Windows HP Hotfix (SP2) Q329170
Windows HP Hotfix (SP2) Q329441
Windows HP Hotfix (SP2) Q331953
Windows HP Hotfix (SP2) Q810565
Windows HP Hotfix (SP2) Q810577
Windows HP Hotfix (SP2) Q810833
Windows HP Hotfix (SP2) Q811493
Windows HP Hotfix (SP2) Q814033
Windows HP Hotfix (SP2) Q815021
Windows HP Hotfix (SP2) Q817606

Is this part of my problem?
Thanks for your response.

The modem speed has nothing to do with the speed of the computer running
programs. It only defines the speed that you connect to the internet with.

Do not delete the Hotfixes. These are security and bug fixes for XP and
deleting them could leave the system open to attack.

This hotfix is known to cause system slowdown
Windows HP Hotfix (SP2) Q811493 and the hole it patches
requires that an attacker have direct access to your
computer you dont need it. As far as programs not working
if you remove these I also have gotten that warning but
all of my programs still work

While I agree that you do not need it, the original version that caused
the trouble was replaced by a new one at the end of May
