What is BEST Removal Tool for MyDoom??

Hi All......

Thanks to the info that Zvi posted about blocks in Mailwasher, etc., I
recognized that one of the people on a genealogy List possibly has the
MyDoom virus......it was rather weird to say the least because it was
not active and was not an attachment. Attachments are not allowed on
genealogy Lists.

And Zvi and Nick.....I will zip up the original post and send it to you.
It is not active. The code was in the body of the email.

Anyway.....I wrote this person from Yahoo and informed him he 'might'
have the virus and he just now answered and said he does.

He is using McAfee and he can't seem to get rid of it. Are any other
tools better? He doesn't know enough to fix Registry items, so just
wondered what would be the best and easiest. And no, I don't know his
O/S.

Odd that the source code and part of his header info was in the email,
but I suppose Rootweb cleaned up the viral part. And NO.....to you
virus collectors.....you are not getting it. (G)

Thanks, people.......I took a look at Symantec, McAfee and Kaspersky and
to my untrained eye, think that perhaps KAV might be the best bet for
him. Advice???

Can't say what's best as I don't have anything else to compare it against.
For a standalone program Stinger works pretty good for detecting and
removing a lot of nasties:

Thanks......I will write him and suggest that one. Looks good. He
needed something simple, so that he didn't have to go into the Registry
and change things.

Your friend can go to http://www3.ca.com/virusinfo/virus.aspx?ID=38102
(Computer Associates EZ anti virus web site) and download a file to remove
the virus. You don't have to subscribe to them for this free download. I
was infected (and I subscribe) and that did the trick.
