What is a WindowsXP hotfix?

I'm trying to clear up some hard drive space and I have
number of different things that have the word Hotfix after
them, such as Windows Media Player Hotfix, and WindowsXP
Hotfix and they are follwed by either KB and a bunch of
numbers or by Q and a bunch of numbers.

Are these things that need to stay on my computer or can
they be removed without causing damage to my computer?

No do not remove it
as there are the updates which has been downloaded from the windows update
site
If u remove it all the updates will be wiped out

Yes, those are the updates you installed from Windows Update.
However the uninstall files can be safely deleted:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/spack.htm

Also if you install SP-2 the entries in Add/Remove Programs will go
away but the uninstall files would remain.

the "temp" files can be removed, but not the patch in the
add/remove programs
