Windows Media Player Hotfix

and

Windows XP Hotfix

and why are there a whole bunch of them on my computer?
Are they necessary?

Those are the installed updates from Windows Update and they should be
left alone.
However you can safely delete the uninstall files:

Yes,they are necessary.
Hotfixes" are the updates you installed from the Windows Update website.
Do not be tempted to remove them or you will uninstall the actual updates.
