What is a MVP?

SOME don't know their ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to
anything other than WinXP questions, and even when replying to those
questions they merely copy and paste canned replies to frequently
asked questions.

Sometimes they stray outside that WinXP safe zone and give really BAD
information on other topics.

Carey Frisch is the prime example of such an "MVP".

Luckily, most MVPs aren't of the Carey variety.

Bill,

You don't need to study for this coveted title. You need to be
recommended by another MVP. This means you have to rub shoulders with
them and sometimes share bed with them as well. There is no such thing
as free lunch and this proves it!

You need to pay a "heavily-discounted" price for it. Can't you afford
one? It is not a give away thing! You only want a big Thank you as you

MVP = Most Valued Professional.. MS = Microsoft.. put them together in order
... Microsoft Most Valued Professional.. there are, have been other companies
that have used MVP, so I add the MS prefix to leave people in no doubt.. you
may also see 'Msft' prefixing at times..

The Windows Shell is the graphical user interface (GUI) with which the User
accesses the functions of the core programming.. in this way, I cover
anything that you can see, do, manipulate, mess with, screw up from the
Windows desktop..

To find out more about what MVP is, go to this site..

Mike, I have read on these newsgroups that MVP stand for Most valued
Pirate or Most Valued Pig, or Most Valued Pervert. So this is not
correct then?

Woh you guys are great.
I thought we docs were doing an awesome job, BUT than where would we be if
you weren’t available.
But do you guys ever really solve an issue, no offence intended.
Your domain is so limited.
Windows is just bundled software with most subsets, but none is one that can
be boosted about.
Personally I feel that MS is very good money making machine, since it has a
monopoly world over. But trends are soon changing.
Windows is like a platform. People use it, with customizations, like
installing their own personally liked browsers, firewalls, and antivirus,
anti spy wares, back up, system utilities. Which are much more efficent than
windows utilities.
Most quality software, utilities aren’t from MS. But it provides a
reasonably good platform.
If I were working for MS, would buy the copy rights of all quality software
& put them under MS name.
Linux is excellent, but sadly most of our med soft wares aren’t compatible
with it.
So we shall keep using windows at least for some time.
Have a great afternoon,
Regards.

PS: The following are my personal views.

Anon

You will see variations on the theme.. some like to hit out at Microsoft for
sport.. good for them.. hope it all works out ok..

Yezinki

I don't need lecturing on Unix and its offshoots.. I worked for many years
doing support for Unix systems, and I am acutely aware of its strengths and
the strengths of the system types that Unix traditionally runs..

I am proud of the recognition from Microsoft.. they didn't have to do it,
and I didn't expect it.. there are 2800 or so of us globally who, freely and
without prejudice, try to make the experience of those who use any of the 80
Microsoft products groups easier and more enjoyable.. do you have a problem
with that?

Do you also have a problem with all of the other people who do the same, or
is it just a way you have found to bash Microsoft?..

If you want to use another type of operating system, do you think that I or
anybody else here will care?.. you can do as you please.. whatever floats
your boat..

What I do not understand is why Linux supporters have to come into these
newsgroups and start stuff with us.. the only answer that I can think of
right about now is that use of Linux has the effect of reducing the users
IQ, and forcing a regression back to childhood.. no offence intended, of
course..

You take things "way" too seriously!

Hello Mr. Mike Hall (MS-MVP),

Why are you getting so upset? Relax calm down.

As I wrote earlier, they are my personal views.

I have been using Windows & MS products since Win95 & still am & will
probably keep on using for some more time, till med soft wares can run on
other OSs.

I would like to clarify a few facts.

I wasn’t trying to lecture you on Linux & you better stop showing off. (If
you really want to show off, solve ALL unresolved issues in the newsgroup,
well enough?)

I am neither a MS or Linux supporter. I prefer any soft ware/ OS, which are
effective, shows results, user friendly, secure etc....

Didn’t join this newsgroup, as you say to bash.

And do mind your language. Low IQ. My IQ is most likely much higher than
yours. I am much more educated & professionally qualified than you at least &
definitely more well mannered. Multilingual, well traveled etc.

But I hate to boost like you do.

Sorry to say you are one arrogant man....

If you carefully read my earlier post, I told you that as a med doc I need
to keep on working on windows despite how much other OSs may look attractive.

Your reply definitely reflects your state of mind, which I don’t want to
describe.

Try learning to accept POSITVE criticism. No one in this world is perfect.

By the way can you please answer my unresolved posts?

I want you to do, as you say that you are 1 of the lucky, 2800 globally.
Must be one genius guy.....

Once again try chilling out. Don’t stress yourself or you shall develop
Hypertension/ IHD (Ischemic Heart Disease).

No offence intended in my reply.

Hope you shall personally answer my posts & the rest of the members’
unresolved issues, with your ocean of knowledge.

Take care,

Have a great after noon.
Regards.

I apologize about my command on English, am a newbie & it is my first

They are ex mac users. They have always posted here. Only the content changed from MaC rUlLz to linux is great.

What I find amazing is that they slag a well known Unix company - Microsoft. Untill Win NT MS wrote their Dos/Windows on Unix (and even XP had to spend a little bit of time on a Unix machine before release), did their accounts on Unix, Unix was their first OS they sold, they wrote the Intel version of AT&T Unix (based on MS's Xenix a licensed version of Unix) during some unification plan.

The first thing MS did to Dos after they bought it was to start building in Unix structures (hence CP/M FCBS being replaced by Unix's handle concept - still a core concept in Windows APIs).

MS is an expert Unix company.

I made no claim about my person other than I worked as support for Unix
based systems.. this statement in no way implies that I knew or know it
all.. the implication is simple enough.. I worked as support for Unix based
systems.. repetition, as you can see, does not change mere fact..

Nowhere did I state that you had a low IQ, but you chose to read that into
what I said.. nor did I imply that my IQ was higher than yours or anybody
else's, but it is noted that you were quick enough to claim that yours would
be higher than mine.. so far, you are the one with all of the claims to
fame, not I..

Your manner was slightly disparaging.. <quote> "But do you guys ever really
solve an issue, no offence intended. Your domain is so limited. Windows is
just bundled software with most subsets, but none is one that can be
boosted about" <endquote>

I would say that our success rate is about as good as your profession..
computers still crash, and people still die.. looks like we both have a
knowledge shortfall to make up here, eh..

... and now to your bash.. <quote> "Personally I feel that MS is very good
money making machine, since it has a monopoly world over. But trends are
soon changing. Windows is like a platform. People use it, with
customizations, like installing their own personally liked browsers,
firewalls, and antivirus, anti spy wares, back up, system utilities. Which
are much more efficent than windows utilities. Most quality software,
utilities aren't from MS. But it provides a reasonably good platform."

Now, why do you think that I saw that as a 'bash'?.. hahahaha.. the next
quote of yours says it all..
<quote>"Linux is excellent, but sadly most of our med soft wares aren't
compatible with it. So we shall keep using windows at least for some time."

Quel dommage!!!!!! So contact open source software authors and ask them to
create software for Linux..

Do I consider you to be yet another Linux troll?.. absolutely, I do because
your statements show it.. your statements, not mine.. disparaging remarks
that call into question the validity of what I and many others do here on
behalf of Microsoft products.. remarks to the effect that one day we might
'all get over it and be using the excellent Linux'..

I know that Linux has a place, and was one of a team that worked on one of
those places.. unfortunately, I don't see a rack of 20 hot pluggable 'pizza'
servers running Linux replacing the venerable home computer any time soon..
that said, I feel sure that MS will appreciate your 'reasonably good
platform' remark.. Bill will sleep soundly tonight, as will I.. count on
it..

You read me all wrong.. I don't get uptight about much in this world, and in
the list of stuff that does, trolls are nowhere to be seen.. I am known by
some as the 'Steel Angel'.. should I be pleased about that?.. I am what I
am, no apologies required or forthcoming.. and in the 'arrogance' stakes,
you are way ahead of me, although I will admit to experiencing mirth to some
of your remarks..

Have a great day.. :-)

David

I didn't feel that it was right to do that.. I do have a heart, ya know.. so
it gets a little cold sometimes.. c'est la guerre.. :-)

Why don't you just post a link.

Yezinki,

Doctor, I am in no way affiliated with the Microsoft
MVP program except that I depend on MVPs and
others to answer my questions.

I was somewhat offended after reading your post
yesterday. In America, we have a saying that goes
like this: "Don't bite the hand that feeds you." In
other words, don't visit this Microsoft-oriented
newsgroup, complain about Microsoft's operating
system and products, and offend the very people
you want to aid you--and then act surprised when
they refuse to promptly help you.

You demand that people resolve your issues. While
this group is very helpful, it does not respond well
(as per human nature) when you threaten or demand
service. Nobody is this newsgroup is contractually
obligated to assist you. When you act like a decent,
respectful, and appreciative human being, you'll be
treated as one in this newsgroup.

I, too, am multilingual and well-traveled. Vietnam,
Laos, Hong Kong, Philippines, Germany, France,
Spain, Morocco, Italy, Luxembourg, Vatican City,
Japan, Grenada, Panama, Mexico, Chile, Columbia,
Canada, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Ireland,
Iceland, Greenland, and Boston's red-light district
known as the Combat Zone.)

You may have a higher IQ but I can beat you up
in hand-to-hand combat. That fact gives me
great pleasure. (Smile.)

Hehe, that is probably a better compliment than the award itself Jessie, but
the cute thing about threads like this one is how quickly the trolls give
themselves (and their IQ) away.

For anyone else coming to this thread we've cancelled the "Spot the Troll"
competition for this week as the Trolls have once again scored several own
goals - so unless you cast your vote on a Diebold Voting Machine (in which
case George W Bush got it) you are all automatically winners and we don't
have that many prizes :)
