yesterday , i finally got rid of mcafee
after MANY years of hearing the MVP's
and lots of other folks say how bad it was .
you folks gave me many options and i went
with AVAST free edition .
there is NO doubt that my computer runs
faster with no ( so far ) application hang/errors ,
which i was having a problem with .i thank all the
MVP's and others for helping me
see the light .

Now that /is/ an upgrade. <applause>

If you haven't done so yet, run this tool. Add/remove still leaves some
McAfee crap laying around.

McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool:

thanks again Bruce .
i assume that you are familiar with avast .
is there any way to get that icon to stop
spinning ?
dick

It should only be spinning when it is actively checking something. If you
installed it with e-mail scanning enabled, I would suggest removing it and
reinstalling. Choose Custom Installation and under Resident Protection,
uncheck: Internet Mail and Outlook/Exchange.

Right click the tray icon click ProgramSettings, click Appearance, uncheck
"Animate tray icon when scanning"

spinning means its working

when i doubleclick the icon , i go to a page
that has " internet mail " , " network shield "
and so on .
each has a " customize " option which lets you
select whichever e-mail scans you wish to enable
or disable .
is there really a need to reinstall ?
dick

You can try that first and if all is well, leave it at that. Sometimes just
turning off e-mail scanning still leaves its teeth gnawing at your mail.
Sort of like the need to use the McAfee Removal Tool.

thanks al , that did the trick .
i know spinning means it's working
but i find it distracting .

Right-click the orb, click Program Settings, Appearance, deselect
"Animate the icon when scanning".
