What happens if use multiple folders?

Am using Outlook 2002.

After I open up the main default (outlook.pst) folder, what happens if I
open up let's say one called outlookbackup1.pst and outlookbackup2.pst
(which are very similar and which I dont' want written-to, they are just for
reference)....

If I click on send/rec email, does it KNOW to put the emails in the main
(outlook.pst) folder or do something else.

Yes, Outlook will know which file to put the new mail in. If you go to
Tools | E-mail Accounts | View or change existing e-mail accounts, or to
File | Data File Management, you will see which file has been designated as
the default mail store.
