What happened to the "Block Sender" option ?

I

I. M. Curious

In OE, you had the option to block a sender in a newsgroup
No different from blocking a spammer for email

Now this option has disappeared in Windows Mail

What's the workaround on this ?

It's still there:
Message, Junk E-mail, Add sender to Blocked Senders list.

That "Junk E-mail" is a bit of a misnomer.
Also, OE would offer to delete all current posts from the blocked sender,
which WM doesn't do.

Gosh,

What an improvement
<Irony OFF>

But thanks for the answer

By the way, In Tools, you could see the Blocked Senders list
Where is that hidden now ?

I

I. M. Curious

Tried it

Is it supposed to make all the messages of the Blocked sender disappear a la
OE ?
Nothing seems to happen when I click on that option
The allegedly blocked sender remains visiable
The program doesn't even appear to be doing anything when you click that
option.

AFAIK, it does nothing for already received messages.
But you should not see any more from that person as long as they do
not change their name.
Some routinely deliberately change their name to make it difficult for
them to be blocked.

Does NOT work

Killfiled on such idiot that has been on my blocked sender list in OE
Doest NOT work under Mail

1) Blocked him
2) Left the group
3) Shut down Mail
4) Re-started Mail
5) He's still there

To block a sender in Windows Mail newsgroups...
Open a message from that sender
click on Message - Junk E-mail - Add Sender to Blocked Sender List
It only blocks new posts from that email address (which is likely munged),
it does not remove messages already downloaded.
Of course, trolls keep changing that fake email address.

You can also create a news rule
Tools - Message Rules - News -
Condition:
[x] from xxxxxxxxxx
[x] or contains xxxxxxx

Action:
[x] delete it
[x] mark it read

after you create it, you can run the "Apply Now" to remove existing
messages

As already mentioned, Blocked Sender will not affect previously
downloaded messages. Are you saying that *new* posts from the
blocked sender are still being downloaded? I have heard that this
feature does not work very well in WM.

Jupiter,

Sometimes (porn) my 'Add sender to Blocked Sender List' is grayed out.
Unable to block.

What's up with this?

That I am not sure.
I get so little that is not an issue for me.
My ISP filters spam so most never gets to my computer.

Before the ISP filtered spam, I tried to block some but so many
constantly changed names so often making the block sender useless.

Check your ISP for options.

G

That probably happens when there is no 'From' address.
Which is just as well.
Blocked Sender is useless for most spam because even when the
spammer includes a 'From' address, it will be fake, or belong to an
innocent third party. Either way, that same address is not likely to be
used again.

It was really nice to have the people you block in a newsgroup disappear
when you block them
Particularly when it was some troll who would generate tons of posts on
a daily basis

Removing that was NOT an improvement
