I now use cheap USB drives such as this 256MB Pen Drive USB 2.0 where
I once used floppies. At $3.15 each they are a perfect solution IMO.

Seem rather expensive - here I am used to about 50p a GB, and I'm used
to UK prices being higher than US ones. A quick look at a few reputable
places found me 8 GB for £2.99 (I couldn't find anything cheaper); ebay
yields 1G for £2.39, 2G for £2.62, 4G for £2.98, and so on.

Careful about cheap flash drives. You could end up with a frankenflash.
Or I was looking at this one just today. But just read the comments on
this one. Oh look, they found enough suckers to buy them. It is now out
of stock. LOL

I was aware of the frankenflashes, though I thought they were mainly
amimed at the higher-capacity end of the market; I'd not have thought
it'd be worth the bother at the 1/2/4/7 GB end.

I just thought $3.15 for a 256MB one was rather steep. (I didn't know
you could still _get_ ones under 1 GB!)
