What generates the automatic printers?

Our printer list often includes remote printers that have been
auto-configured and added to the printer list. We are on a higher-end HP
computer running Windows Media Center 2005. What triggers the automatic
configuration of those remote printers, how do we request an
auto-configuration, and how do we turn the feature ON or OFF?

I don't really know what you mean. Can you be more specific? Are you on a
network controlled by someone else that might have control over this? If so,
you should ask them.

Two possibilities come to mind.

1. You added a network printer. These have names like "share on server" or
"\\server\share" (depending on where you're looking). In this case, an
administrator chooses "Printing Defaults" but you may choose to override
them with "Printing Preferences".
