what format?????

what format would i need to use to record to a dvd disc and so i could be able to watch my h/movies on my normal dvd player not pc
 
There is only one format, that's MPEG-2 video. This is generally 720 x 480
for NTSC and a bitrate upto 9.8Mbps. Any application that burns DVD's will
generally help you with that.
