What format should I use to display 1.1.01 as 1.1.1 ?

It is text, formats work on numbers.

(there's no email, no snail mail, but somewhere should be gmail in my addy)
 
I don't think you can change the appearance with formatting because 1.1.01
is text not a number (or a date -- which is really a number anyway)
