What does the app FireDaemon do?

I keep getting a pop-up that FireDaemon.exe has failed in
XP. I upgraded from NT. Is this an essencial file or
can I just deactivate it from msconfig?

Google Is Your Friend(tm). Check out the links you will get by entering
the search term "FireDaemon.exe". Unless you have a Compaq or you
installed this yourself, you probably have a trojan running.
