I see ***Free second day*** in motherboard ads. What does this mean?

One would assume that they are offering to ship the board by some means
(UPS, FEDEX, DHL?) which should get it to you by the second day after
the order and they will not charge you for the shipping. Of course
everyone knows that TANSTAAFL so it really means that they are hiding
the shipping cost in what they are charging you for the board and
assuming that you aren't bright enough to realize. If they really had
some means of free shipping then they wouldn't bother with the MB
business and would make a fortune shipping items for others using their
"free" means.

What does it matter? It's not as if they are taking advantage of you.
Anyone who isn't smart enough to pay attention to the total price +
shipping will get what they deserve. Having said that, it doesn't matter
what the price is or what the shipping is, what matters is what they add
up to.

Another thing... mail-order companies get fantastic shipping discounts. I
don't know first hand what kind of discount a company like Newegg or
Zipzoomfly gets, but most companies that do even moderate shipping get
discounts in the 50-75% range from FedEx and UPS. This being their busiest
month of the year, they offer free shipping or free shipping upgrades as
an incentive to buy from them, right now.

I enjoy when shipping is included in the price.

The only way "free second day air" is different is in that you know
the shipping cost up front and you are coerced to use that method of
shipping.

The second day of the week is free, the other weekdays you have to pay for.
Weekend days cost double. :-)

Whew, I was scared there. For a moment I thought there'd be no wisenheimer
replies. ;-)

Remember Outpost.com in the late 1990s (before they were bought out by Fry's
Electronics)? They didn't charge for shipping--of course it was built into
the price...duh!--but they shipped everything *overnight*! I remember
ordering a Matrox G400MAX video card online at 11:45 P.M. and having it
shipped to my work address. It was waiting for me on my desk when I got to
work the next morning! Needless to say, I was a good customer of theirs.
Sure miss them.

Very astute. You have a bright future in the field of economics. :-)

Well, everyone got this one wrong, wrong wrong. It means two BUSINESS
day delivery from the time it is received by FedX, UPS, etc. So some
companies take three days to process the order, pack the order and send
it to the shipper. Then if the shipper gets it on Friday, you most
likely will get it on Monday.

Using strict logic, you just invalidated your own post.

Ha ha, you're right. I should have known.

Actually some companies, ZipZoomFly is one, offer free two day
FedX delivery. They usually get it out to FedX in one to two days and
two more days for FedX, so delivery is very fast.
