what do the different contact icons mean in Outlook?

there is an icon that looks like a v-card and an icon which looks like a
yellow post-it not with a push-pin in it. What do they mean/what is the
difference?

thanks, that is helpful. But it deepens my question. Why would the icon for a
contct be an email "post" contact. I still don't understand why one contact
card looks like a v-card icon and the other looks like a "post" icon

Most likely, it's a custom form. Add the Message Class field from the All Contact Fields list to the current view to confirm.

I don't know what you mean by that.

I added the Messge Calls Field but the field is poulated with information
that can apply to both icons, in other words there seems to be no correlation
between that field and the 2 icon types I have.

Added the field where? If you add it to a folder view, that field is available to any item visible in the current view, regardless of what form that item is using.
