What do I have to do to see the security properties tab

Sometimes when I click Properties for a file I see a security tab and
sometimes I do not.

What do I have to do to see that?

In My Computer go to Tools>Folder Options>View

Scroll down to bottom and uncheck "Use simple file sharing"

Now you will see Security Tab on Folders and Files

file is in a partition (drive) in which FAT is used? Security or
permissions is an NTFS feature.

That did it!

I had it unchecked untill a few months ago when trying to do something (I
can't remember what) I had to check it.

Checked or unchecked, does it change anything permanently or just what is
displayed.

I didn't go the "disable simple file sharing" route because you claimed
that sometimes you *did* see the Security tab when viewing the
properties of a file. You said (punctuation added) "Sometimes, when I
click Properties for a file, I see a security tab ...".

Thanks for the help. I think I might have seen it during Safe Mode (if that
make any sense) but I'm not sure.
