What do I do with an assertion failure at the opening of Word?

I am using Microsoft Student Teacher Edition 2003. I downloaded updates from
the microsoft site and now when I open a word document an "assertion failure"
comes up, Microsoft Visual C++Runtime Library. I try to debug the assertion
failure but all it does is send a report to microsoft and closes my document.
If I hit ignore, I am able to use the document. What should I do about this
window and does this hurt my document? How do I get rid of it?

You might try a repair install.
