The difference is slot type. PCI is for modems, sound
cards mainly. AGP is advanced graphics protocal which is
only used for graphics cards(to my knowledge). You could
use either assuming your computer has available slots.
AGP would be preferred because it is the better option
for video cards. Geforce and ATI are both good names for
video cards. What is in your price range is the real
key, also what you expect out of it is a factor.
something with 128md ddr should be able to handle most if
not all of what you throw at it.

The slot for an AGP card is longer to accomodate the extra "tail" that's on
the AGP board. You should not place an AGP card into a PCI slot. There's
many good brands - which is best will mostly come down to opinion.

Personally, I've purchased ATI and Matrox dualhead cards to setup my system
with two monitors. Out of the two, I prefer the ATI cards because their
color and detail seem to be richer than the Matrox cards. Many ATI models
are decent for casual gaming and all around computing without being
exorbitantly priced.

If your system has an AGP slot you should use an AGP graphics card. Aside
from the configuration of the cards, an AGP card cannot occupy a PCI slot
and a PCI card cannot occupy an AGP slot, AGP cards are faster than PCI and
AGP was designed specifically to work with graphics cards.

Also, you need to consider that AGP and PCI are a bus that conducts
information to and from the system. A bus on a computer is a means of data
transport similar to a highway. If you use a PCI graphics card, you are
using a bus shared by every other device that occupies a PCI slot. AGP is
dedicated to the graphics card so you get better response and faster
graphics.
