What did I do wrong - can't boot up

Two days ago, I downloaded a windows update (by clicking
on the prompt I always see at the right bottom of the
screen - tray?). I downloaded a bunch of update stuff and
then tried to reboot my computer. The computer began to
update as usual. Then, after the "Windows 2000
Professional" screen (with the blue progress bar at the
bottom) finished, another blue screen appeared for an
instant (with some writing which I could not read because
of the speed with witch it came and went)and the machine
tried to reboot again then froze. I tried this a number
of times with the same result. I also tried to restart in
safe mode and "the last working configuration..." mode -
still same result. How can I gain access and/or, what
have I done?

You might try booting with the win 2000 disk, by getting into your bios and
changing the boot order to cd/rom. Then when the 2000 installation program
begins select repair current system. Hope its some help.
