I work on a Domain envoronment and spend little time in a work
enviroement...

I just installed XP Pro SP2 on a computer and as part of the setup process I
created a user accout.
When I do into Control Panel/User I get a very different set of options then
on my work PC.

What I want to do is delete the user account I used as part of the Setup.
I started up the PC in SAFE mode and logged in as the Administrator, but
can't see how to delete my account.

Is it because the PC isn't part of a Domain that it functions differently?
Seems like this should be easy, but it has me stumped for the time being.

Any input would be appreciated.

Home and Pro are different.

Delete a user account with XP Home or Pro.

You can delete a user account from User Accounts in the Control panel.

Control Panel | User Accounts

1. Click Change an account in the Pick a task list box.
2. Click the account that you want to change.
3. Select the item that you would like to change:
Click Delete the account to delete the user account from the computer. When
you delete the account, you are given the option to save the user's files on
the computer.

Note: You can not delete the account for a user that is currently logged on
to the computer.

You also cannot delete your own account, you have to log on as another
administer to delete your own account. Kind of a nice feature if you think
about it.

Delete a user account in XP Pro only

To delete a user account
1. Open Computer Management.
Right click My Computer and click Mangage.
Or Start | Run | Type: compmgmt.msc | Click OK.

2. In the console tree, click Users.
Where?
Computer Management\System Tools\Local Users and Groups\Users

3. Right-click the user account you want to delete, and then click Delete.

Notes
* To open Computer Management, click Start, point to Settings, and then
click Control Panel. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then
double-click Computer Management.
* When you need to remove user accounts, it is a good idea to disable the
accounts first. When you are certain that disabling the account has not
caused a problem, you can safely delete it.
A deleted user account cannot be recovered.
* The built-in Administrator and Guest accounts cannot be deleted.

Disable a user account.

Open Local Users and Groups...
Start | Run | Type: lusrmgr.msc | Click OK |
Click on the Users folder | Double click the user account
you want to disable | Check: Account is disabled |
Click Apply | Click OK | Rinse | Repeat

[[A disabled account still exists, but the user is not permitted to log on.
It appears in the details pane, but the icon has an X in it.]]

lusrmgr.msc = Local Users and Groups and also comes with XP Home.

But, if you try to access Local Users and Groups (Local) with XP Home, you
will get...

[[This computer is running Windows XP Home Edition. This snapin may not be
used with that version of Windows. To manage user accounts for this
computer, use the User Accounts tool in the Control Panel]]

I'm using XP Pro

For the computers on my domain, I get a logon screen that has user name,
password and domain etc.
I just reinstalled XP Pro on a PC and it comes up to a screen that has the
little Icon beside the user name....
This is exactly what I'm seeing on the new install
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279783
On the computers that I've joined to my Domain, they have a different "User
Accounts" screen.
They have two tabs, Users and Advances. Users shows all the accounts on the
machine, local or domain....

I'm assuming the difference is because one has joined the domain and the
other not.... is that correct?

Thanks

Kelvin

You are correct... you could make yours look the same as the domain
account, but without the domain listing if you "change the way users
login, remove the check marks off both fast user switching and use
welcome screen" under users in the control panel

thanks, that's what I was looking for...
