what causes computer to go offline?

i have windows xp and a cable modem thru comcast and i am getting booted offline over and over thruout the day pages stop loading and so on... i have to reboot and most the time im back on then it will happen over and over what would cause this to happen been happening for almost a month now comcast said my modem is working fine any suggestions?
