What can I use to create encrypted PDFs?

What software is there which will let me create an encrypted PDF?

EasyPDF won't do it.

And the freeware version of CutePDF does not seem to help.

Primo PDF offers <quote> Secure PDFs with 40-/128-bit encryption,
allowing the highest level of security for your PDF files. Settings
include password to open, password to change, disable printing, disable
text/graphics copying, disable commenting, disable text editing, disable
page addition.

Hi Franklin..

Check my website for the open source alternative for Adobe's Acrobat
for creating PDF docments. I suggest http://www.osalt.com/pdfcreator

It does support security, but only 40bit (at least in the version I
use) - perhaps the latest version has better encryption support.

Still not working for me...

Mike,

if you would try this:

http://www.becyhome.de/download/BeCyPDFMetaEdit233Eng.zip

(link to the download of the stand alone version)

The ink to the installer version is:

http://www.becyhome.de/download/BeCyPDFMetaEdit233Eng.exe

Would that work for you, or do you get some kind of error? Have you checked
your hosts file? If your browser support blocked sites... is it in the
"blocked" list?

BTW: These links were copied from the web site, which works perfectly here!

Thanks for your post, Jay.

I am clearly having a problem with reaching this site. I cannot DL from
the links you provide or reach that particular domain.

I use Mozilla (various versions, various platforms) all
cannot get to www.becyhome.be and I get a "could not be found. Please
check your links etc" type error.

I think that I have tried to reach this domain some time ago, also from a
link provided in ACF and could not reach it then, either. I didn't pay
much attention to it at the time...

The nearest I've gotten to reaching this location is via Google's cache
pages... I need to talk to my admin about this.

Thanks for your help.

Mike,

If your news server carries alt.binaries.freeware the check it out; I
uploaded the zipped stand alone version of the program a moment ago. We'll
get that friggin' program to you... one way or another :-D

Mike,

Weird thing to reply to your own post <grin>, however in another thread I
read about "YouSendIt", and I have uploaded to there too; this is the link:

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=E21242CE3F3EDBB5

It's the same zipped stand alone that I ul'de to ABF. Hopefully your Moz
browser(s) will accept this one!

Jay. Thank you very much for your efforts. I DL'd
BeCyPDFMetaEdit233Eng.zip (261 KB) 5 mins ago.

Glad you knew about yousendit, - I use free news
servers which tend to be text only, no bins :)

Thanks again.

Good that Jay sorting things out there, Mike.

Am posting to say that your machine sounds like it behaves a bit like
mine. I can't access some services which others can.

At least that is until I yank out some of the security I have
(disable firewall, rename hosts, perhaps suspend antivirus, even
start some unwanted Microsoft services I had disabled, etc). Not
good really.

As an introspective ...

I think I probably have my security clamping down too hard. So
paradoxically I end up having no security at all when I need to get
around those puzzling freezes & failures!

In the past I've found that the culprit is often the "unimportant"
messaging traffic like ICMP. Or it's the fallback stuff which isn't
needed often like DHCP comms with the network to confirm a broadband
user's IP address.

Some other of my IP settings were a bit squiffy and some TCP auto-
tuning work may have been less clever than it seemed at the time.

I've ripped out a lot of the "shield" software like TeaTimer which
watch for trojans or reg activity or whatever but can be over
enthusiastic.

And I also end up using IE much more than I like because some sites
depend on it's non-standard features like ActiveX.

But in the end it all seems to work. Which amazes me sometimes!

Good luck in sorting out your blocks.

Bad idea to unload Teatimer and not run it while in sessions. Unless you
have something else to take its place and do that chore (blocking registry
changes in real time) then why would you do that? Its not just about
trojans but practical things like " Who wants this or that program or
utility to open or run evertime ya boot up?". For example, every time I
need to see something on Quicktime I don't want it to be in the background
and in the quick launch tray when I boot. Teatimer will let you defeat that
registry change because it tells you that Quicktime wants to start up on
boot so TeaTimer lets you check the disallow registry change box. I realize
you are no slouch with Matrixstuff, but what's up with snuffing TeaTimer?
Maybe I need a brain or a new way of doing things myself.

pdftk - a little command line app will encrypt an existing pdf
(some problems with ver. 1.6 pdf's reported)

guipdftk - a gui for pdftk <g>
get them both together
http://www.paehl.de/pdf/?download=guipdftk.zip

also a good source of info is at: www.pdfhacks.com

Some useful tools there. Been checking out PDF things recently. That
GUI front end makes it really nice. This is a keeper.
Thank you.
