What are two modes of Windows Explorer?

I have a question about the terminology of Windows
Explorer. I would like to know the names of the two modes
of Windows Explorer.

Start > All Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer

will launch explorer.exe and will open "My Documents"
folder. In the resultant window, the left pane displays a
hierarchical tree of items, while the right pane displays
the surficial contents of the "My Documents" folder. So,
this mode of Windows Explorer has a tree on the left pane.

If you click the "Folders" button on the toolbar of this
window, then the tree on the left pane disappears, while
the right pane stays untouched. This mode of Windows
Explorer has no tree. If the "Use Windows classic folders"
option is selected in the Folder Options, then this mode
does not have the left pane at all. If the "Show common
tasks in folders" option is selected in the Folder Options,
then the left pane of this mode displays common tasks
instead of the tree.

So, Windows Explorer has two modes. The first mode has the
left pane with a tree. The latter mode does not have a
tree. Both modes have the right pane, which displays the
surficial contents of the selected folder.

What do you call these two modes? I might call the first
the "tree mode", while the latter the "plain mode". Are
there any official definitions for these two modes?

Common Tasks, Folders pane and tree view

Common Tasks pane...
[[You can display hyperlinks to common tasks in the left pane of your folder
windows. The links provide quick access to file and folder management
activities and other places on your computer, such as My Computer, Shared
Documents, and My Network Places. Windows displays these links by default,
so they may already be displayed in your folders. If they are not, you can
use Folder Options to enable this feature.]]

Folders pane..
Shows the tree view, with the folders and the [+] sign in the left hand
pane.

tree view
[[A hierarchical representation of the folders, files, disk drives, and
other resources connected to a computer or network. For example, Windows
Explorer uses a tree view to display the resources that are attached to a
computer or a network.]]

A pane is a framed sheet of glass in a window or door.

Windowpane is a pane in a window.

Explorer view and Folder View. The first is a compatability mode for people who can't learn how to use Windows 95 or newer.
