What are these entries seen in Add/Remove Program.

Hi there everyone!
I just noticed multiple entries of "J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update" in
Control Panel-->Add/Remove. In fact, there are four entries each taking over
100MB of space. The updates are Update 2, Update 6, Update 10 and Update 11.
What are these? I understand Java Runtime is required, but each update taking
120-oddMB of space? Are these valid entries?

My trouble is:
I don't understand 'updates' taking up somuch space.
Where are the missing updates - like update 3/4/5/7/8/9 etc. if any.
I am unable to uninstall/remove them as everytime I try that, it pops a
window asking for a location from where the software is to be removed. (and
the default location it points to does not exist)
Now I have decided to remove them manually. Any suggestion? Please also tell
me how to remove these entries from add/remove program after removing these
files manually.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hello Dillydally , welcome back

Since I don't use Java I don't have a answer to your questions

But to unistall programs you can try the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
and CCleaber

Download the Windows Installer Cleanup utility:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;290301

CCleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com
Note, uncheck Yahoos toolbar during instªll.

Do the scans with all the check marks ºn.
Open Ccleaner and press "Windows" "Aplications" and "Run Cleaner" from the
menu choose 'Issues' and then press scan for issues, Repair any fºund.

Registry - CCleaner even has a built-in Registry Cleaner.
It's not the best (not CCleaner's main function), but it will find invaild
registry entries that most Registry Cleaners will not.
Unlike the Disk Cleaners with a Registry Cleaner, CCleaner does really fast
scanning for Registry Issues.
The reason is CCleaner doesn't want to effect Windows performance or effect
any applications. It's better to be safe than sºrry!

NOTE - The first time you run CCleaner's Issues scanner, you'll have to
keep running it back-to-back until it finds nothing.
One scenario is a registry key may only be a reference pointing to a
completely different location in the registry and when it's removed then that
reference link is also noticed as being invalid on a subsequent scan.
It's generally a good idea to keep running the Issues scan until nothing is
listed.

Good luck

Hi Dillydally,

Sun Java the latest is: Version 6 Update 2
The rest you may destroy ;)
Mine Java files are in:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_02\
The old versions where also there but with other numbers!
If you delete that files and run the "Problems" feature in CCleaner (the
won Engel send you to) it will solve the deletion of the updates.
After that go to, Control Panel-->Add/Remove again and it you click on
these old items (if they are there still) you got the offer to het rid
of these items. Then download the latest Java here:http://java.com/en/
Let us know how it worked out for you.
