I installed win xp full version with serv pack 2. I thought my hard drive was
wiped clean of win98 but apparently not. When i start up it asks me to choose
which operating system, xp or windows. Also when i shut down it does not auto
shut down it says safe to turn off computer. Is the a way to fix these or do
i have to start all over?

Hi Phil,

1) Go to the Control Panel/System/advanced tab, click on startup and
recovery settings. Click the edit tab to open boot.ini in notepad. Remove
the line that loads Win98 from the [operating systems] section, then close
saving changes.

2) Go to the Control Panel/Power Options, look on the advanced tab for the
option to enable APM. It is not installed by default during installation.

Check All Boot Paths

Start | Run | Type: msconfig | Click OK |
Boot.ini tab | Check All Boot Paths button |
A dialog box will open detailing the location of any invalid operating
system locations | Confirm you want to remove the entry and reboot

[[Check All Boot Paths - This button will check the boot paths for all
operating systems listed in the BOOT.INI to ensure they point to a valid
operating system. ]]

If there is only one you will get:
It appears that all BOOT.INI lines for Microsoft operating systems are OK.

Hi,

Have you scanned for an updated sound card driver? Best source would be the
system maker or card manufacturer's site.
