Well loved dos program won't run.

I have a well loved dos program which won't run under XP pro.

The program checks to see where it has been installed and advises that
it has found a ramdisk. For protection reasons it will not run from a
ramdisk.

The files are actually on a FAT32 hard disc.

Does any one have a solution or a work around. If you can think of a
better group to ask please let me know.

Thanks in Advance

XP doesn't include DOS.

See if you can figure this app out (it's not too hard but there is a
learning curve) and that just might do it for you:

DOSBox, a x86 emulator with DOS:

Try this. Make a shortcut to the file that activates the program and place
it on your desktop. Right click it and choose Properties. Click on the
Compatibility tab at the top. Try running the program in compatibility mode
for Win 95 or Win 98. Not much work and worth a shot at it.
I have a program (but not DOS) that wouldn't run in Win XP but using
compatibilty it works fine.

many thanks for all your help most of which have been tried

We used to pay an annual support fee to the vendor but I knew more
about dos the their youngsters on the help desk. The app is a
legitamate copy but I suspect that the DOS emulator in XP responds with
some parameter regarding drive type

I also tried DRIVPARM in an config file particular to this dos app but
it did not seem to help.

I shall try DOSBOX

Plato your solution came to me in the bath this morning it may be the
way forward.

Many Thanks

Nick
