Welcome Screen says user has unread email when this is not the case

Jeff

The Welcome Screen indicates that one of the two users of
my WInXP Pro machine has unread email. I've cleaned out
both inboxes for this user (both a Hotmail account and a
POP3 account). All email is on my local computer in
a .pst file. All has been marked read. Still, the
welcome screen indicates the user has (1) unread message
(Hotmail). Even if I add several mail messages and mark
them as unread, it still shows only (1) unread message.
Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The Welcome Screen's Unread Mail indicator only shows .NET Passport- or
Hotmail/MSN-related mail. It has nothing to do with Outlook.

Compliments of Kelly:

Use TweakUI/Logon/Unread Mail and Repair/Unread Mail Count

Disable Unread Mail on the Welcome Screen (Line 100)

To remove an account or to change the count manually Got to:
Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Your
E-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail. In
the right pane modify: MessageExpiryDays Change it to 0.
