I have a new WinXP installation on a home PC with only one user (me).
After doing the critical updates, I get a signon screen that want's me
to click my user name. No passwords though. I also get a welcome screen.
Can I make both of those go away and have the system just boot to my
desktop?

Thanks

Visit the Windows Update web site and download the available critical update
for .NET Framework. After installing it and rebooting, the Welcome Screen
will no longer appear if you do not have a password for your account.

The Welcome to Windows screen appears when you start Windows XP
after you install the .NET Framework 1.1

If you don't want to wait the WELCOME SCREEN, with click ..., you just
must go to CONTROL PANEL, click on USER ACCOUNTS, and click on: Change
the way users logon or logoff and click on USE WELCOME SCREEN. If that
checkbox is empty you will don't have problems anymore! BUT if you
receive to enter a password, just type your USERNAME and at password
leave empty. Press ENTER. That's all!
