I have a dual boot system win98se and win 2000 pro, when I use windows media
player in win98 to play a music cd everything works perfect. but when I play
exactly the same cd in wmp using win 2000 the cd is slowing and missing
bits, this problem has only just started. I have checked for virus' etc and
all checks are ok. Any help before I pull the rest of my hair out

If I had to make a guess, I would say that the cause is either due to
additional load on a "marginal installation" or a recent "hotfix", check
for new processes in Task Manager, and recent installations.
