Weird Problem

Windows 2000 server

Suddenly, when trying to run almost any program, including word, excel, and QuickBooks, - a DOS window comes up with the curser dancing around inside. The programs themselves have been replaced with this. Some programs still run fine, such as games, and IE.

Has anyone seen this and if so, how do you fix it?
 
I have seen something very similar to this. It was a Virus that changed the
registry settings to run a specific program whenever an .exe or .com file
was clicked on. You will need to do some searches in sysmantecs website for
these symptoms, if the Virus program has already been removed. The fix
requires editing the registry if it is the same type of thing.
