Weird POP3 Timeout issue in Outlook XP

J

Josh

I'm running windows 2000 SP4, w/ Office XP SP3.

I've been getting Pop3 timeout errors sporadically: "sending and receiving
reported error (0x8004210A) operation timed out (POP) server...." Whenever
I get the error, I close down outlook, reopen, and everything is fine.

I have also setup Outlook Express, and it can check mail just fine, even
when Outlook is spazzing out.

I have done the repair option for office xp. I have deleted, and re-created
the mail configuration, and nothing seems to work. Things will be ok for a
day or so, and then I get the message.

One thing to note, Outlook is remaining open for those 1-2 day periods.

Any ideas?

TIA

Are you running a virusscanner that integrates with Outlook? If so; that's
the cause of your time-outs.

I was running Symantec corp 8. I unintegrated it from outlook, and the pop3
settings. I also removed it, and installed corp 9.

I can try uninstalling the AV software completely and see if that fixes it,
but I doubt that is the problem because it's not integrated with it any
more, and closing and reopening outlook fixes it.

Thanks
