Weird mouse behavior

I have a Microsoft IntelliMouse which I've used for several years. Recently
it's been
acting strangely. When I roll it, the pointer will suddenly disappear from
the screen,
and then appear in another part of the screen. It will also jump from one
page to
another without clicking either button. Occasionally the pointer will jump
erratically
when moving the mouse, from one part of the screen to another making it
difficult
to put it on a link. When that happens I have to reboot the computer. I've
cleaned the
roller contacts inside and it still does these weird things.

Do mice go bad after a period of time? What could be causing this strange
behavior?
I use a current antivirus program (McAfee) and Antispam programs.

Try uninstalling the drivers install generic ms drivers and then reinstall
the drivers also look to see if you have a trojan horse on the system and
also look for spyware and malware using spybot search and destroy and go to
mcafee.com and download the stinger program and run it on your system in safe
mode, you can also enable mouse pointer trails to see if the pointer trails
follow the mouse movements, and yes mice can go bad especilly if the roller
contacts get dirty or moist.
