Weird error - can't save, program just crashes/disappears

Hi!

I use Windows XP Pro SP2 with the latest patches and lately (don't know
when) I have a weird problem. As soon as I try to save a file from say
Notepad or a PDF from the web the program just disappears/crashes and
nothing happens.

Any clues?

- Do and a/v check?

- Run Chkdsk, or in Device Manager, right-click the C: drive, click
Properties, Tools tab, in Error-checking, click "Check Now".

Do an antivirus check. If your a/v software will do a boot scan, that's
preferred so it can catch any malware before it can load.
