weird dancing little square in the video when I import them into moviemaker

mpeg import to movie maker and playing other files in media player yield a
strange dancing square divided up like a tick tack toe board with a solid
round dot in the upper square.

it is small but really annoying! this has happened on more than one file...
is this a codec issue? weirdest thing I have seen inna while

it was an elecard mpeg codec I got with a demo program went to tools
options and unchecked the box for it.
all is well

oh my it got rid of the box in movie maker but not media player....
how do i decodec media player? I do not see anything under tools like I did
with movie maker
