Weird crashes after I removed some spyware.

I am having some really weird problems after I removed some spyware. I
deleted this thing called Free Radio (radio.exe) and ever since I have
been getting "encountered a problem and needs to close" popup error
whenever I run IE and other Internet utilities. If I unplug from the
network or run IE without a homepage it starts fine. As soon as I try
to goto a page it comes up with the error. Same deal with other
applications - as soon as you try to connect they crash. You can move
the popup out if your way and still use the application as long as you
don't click on it. The error is very general so I cannot find the
cause.

....faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0 ...

The offset is always the same but I am not sure how to map the offset
to the offending module. I checked for viruses and spyware with just
about any utility. Checked for suspicious dlls and processes to no
avail. Everything looks fine. I don't get the error in Safe Mode, but
it does come up in Safe Mode with Networking, so this is network
related. Please help!

One place you may want to check is through the msconfig utility. If you
click Start -> Run, type in msconfig and then click OK it will launch. Once
open click on the Startup tab and look through the list of items that are
starting up when Windows starts. The offending app may be in there. Look
for something like what you found before, the radio.exe. The spyware and
antivirus apps help to clean the stuff out, but sometimes they do miss some
of the registry entries so that's another place to check from things such as
that. If you're not familiar with modifying the registry, read up heavily on
it before modifying because it could have dire consequences if you remove the
wrong thing.

Yeah, this is the first place I checked. There is nothing there. Like
I said, it persists in safe mode where no third party applications are
loaded. I need to figure out what got currupted or attached that's
causing this. unknown module does not tell me anything.

A search for radio.exe on Google suggests that it is a really nasty piece of
work. You seem like someone who understands software so I suggest you read
all of the sites. Obviously, deleting just radio.exe didn't remove all of
the other stuff it left. I assume you have tried deleting all cookies and
temp files and running your anti-spyware with a clean boot.

Best bet in the future is NOT to install spyware in the first place. As
even if you remove it the damage it may cause often remains. The choice
is up to you.
