Webshots Upgrade :-P

E

Ed Wood

Cheers!

I recently had to reformat my PC and my backup copy of my Webshots
software V1.? was on a corrupted CD <GRRR> Imagine my horror when I
downloaded the new version 2 and discovered it has become very pushy
and in-your-face beast. At least for me. As I am a member that pays
for unlimited downloads, I was sadly umimpressed by their support that
just told me flat out V2.0 or the highway. I have looked far and wide
for a v1 copy via Google. I found one, but it is ancient and not
compatible with XP. I'd hate to me stuck with this "progress".. anyone
have any ideas where to grab a pre-v2.0 copy? TIA! (I posted this to
freeware-discussion by mistake. Sorry for the crosspost.)

I downloaded Webshots in summer of 2002, I don't remember which version it
is but you can download it from my ftp if you want (you must tell me when,
because I need to turn ftp server on) http://boogiemanpn.myftp.org

Do you know that you can extract pictures from files in your folder :
C:\Program Files\Webshots\Collections\
Then, when you have those converted to *.jpg
it's easy to put them as wallpapers.

My Webshots account works very well in XP, so I must have an earlier
version of the program .. according to your experience. I cannot find
anywhere within the program itself where it mentions which version I have,
but when I upgraded to XP, I merely copied the single executable file to
a folder for it on my hard drive. It worked fine after going through my
login name and password. Needed no other adjunct files or registry data.

To find the webshots version, open the Webshots Desktop, then click on the More Info button, then About Webshots.

My version is 1.0.0.3895 .. and it works great in XP.
Shall I send it to you?

I appreciate that, but in order to be able to download a page of
photos, vs. 1 by 1, you need something above 1.3+. Thanks for the
offer, tho.

I have version 1.3.0.3613 on my computer. I also have a file in my
archives called "webscene.exe" that is Webshots. I'm pretty sure it is
the same version, but as it's nearly 2 years old, and my archiveing
system was not too flash back then, I'm not sure. :)
I'll happily send it to you, it's 1.62MB in size.

Whoever has the old version 1.3.0.3613 of Webshots, please send, I'd really
appreciate it so very much. I never should have upgraded, the new version
is just awful...I know I saved the old version "webscene.exe" on disk, but
now I can't find it...someone please help...Thanks....

I have uploaded it to here-

Also, might I recommend Catfish for archiving and searching for files on
all those CDs we have these days-

YW. :)

As a matter of interest, how do you "upload" a file to yousendit.

I've read through the info on their web site and can only find
information on sending a file directly to a specific email address.
Put a fake email address in.

Put a fake email address in.

But how does that make the file available for anybody to download as
was the case with this original post? The file is obviously still
sitting on a "yousendit" server somewhere. It hasn't been mailed
anywhere, other than to the server.

The email field is only to notify people where they may download the
file. If you wait until the upload is finished, you will be provided
with a link to download the file. If you wish, you can put your own
email address in the field.

It's all done with smoke and mirrors...

A good Magician never reveals how the trick was done...

Many thanks, its all pretty obvious once you go through the process.

I should have tried it out first. Thanks again.

What is the problem with new versions?
I have 1.3.0.3826 and was thinking of upgrading.
