Webcam Problems..

I received a received Orbit MP (made by Logitech) Christmas 2006, and tried to download the software it on my new laptop that I received this year (it came with windows XP.) There weren't problems with the download, but my computer won't process that it's attached to the USB port, and when I try to use it, it will say that it isn't connected. I tried uninstalling then installing the software multiple times, and plugging the cam into different USB ports, but it just wont work. Any ideas as to what I should do?
