Is IIS available in Win XP Pro, and/or Home? I am planning on making a
file-, and most likely a web-server. Would Pro be a good OS to use? I am
planning on getting a hooptie pc rig to use. What would be the minimum you
would suggest for a web server? I currently have DSL (might get Cable Net in
far future).

Windows XP make a bad webserver platform, you want to purchase and setup
Windows 2003 WebServer edition if all you want is a small Windows based
web server, Windows 2003 Standard or Enterprise if you want more
performance or capacity.

You need to subscribe to the microsoft.public.inetserver.iis group - that
group is specifically geared for webserver discussions.

One last thing, based on what I assume is your level of understanding, you
need to spend many days reading about how to secure your IIS server and
the Operating System before you expose it to the public or you'll be
compromised in short order.
