I am the webmaster for a site that belongs to a club I am in. The server
that is housing the site is in another state. I would like to set my
computer up (which is running XP Home) as a web server to host the clubs
site so we have more control over the site. My question is, How do I go
about setting up my computer as a Web server? I presently have Frontpage
2000 installed, but the club I belong to is going to purchase Frontpage
2003. I am using Frontpage 2000 right now to edit the site, so I am familiar
its operations. In frontpage 2000's help section that relates to setting up
a web server, it only mentions to install the Frontpage Extensions. Is there
more to it then that? I want to make sure I understand the process
thoroughly before I have the club put out the money to buy the 2003 version.

Thank You in advance,
Bob Thompson

ps. any help you can give me would be much appreciated

1 - XP Home does not have any built in web server capabilities. Only xp pro
has IIS which has a web server.
2 - You can use a thrid party web server like apache on xp home, but I'm not
sure if it supports the frontpage extensions.
3 - Once your server is setup you have to install and then configure the
frontpage extensions. On xp pro using IIS is fairly easy, not sure about
others.
4 - I believe frontpage 2000/2003 only works with MS webservers(IIS) and the
frontapge extensions.
5 - Check with your isp before setting up a server as most isp's do not let
you run servers off a normal account. Some will even ban you for life when
they find out.(and they will find out, they can tell, I worked for a cable
isp before)
