Web Pages not displaying - XP PRO SP2 - IE6 & FF: Help !

Hoping someone could help me out...

As of two days ago, my web pages started loading intermittently. Sometimes
the pages will load, sometimes it doesn't even appear to try and load the
page and IE6 will report "done" at the bottom left without displaying
anything. Other times the pages will load and stop half way, sometimes it'll
work fine.

I've tried swapping IE6 for FireFox to now avail, when I click a link, it
will either report "stopped" on the bottom left or get half way through a
page and stop... Strangely though, when navigating with FF if I right click
and open in a new Tab, the pages nearly always load perfectly ! If I try the
same in IE6 (open in new window), the new window just appears blank.

Can anyone advise me ?

The connection is fine, other net apps work fine.
The system is up-to-date (in fact, the problems seem to arrive on Wednesday
after downloading the new MS updates)
The machine is free of adware and virus.

Replies here please.

Cheers

Hi Jeffrey,

I'm running a fresh version of FireFox with no extensions what-so-ever. I've
found I can get around the problem in FF by right-clicking the hyperlink and
selecting 'open in new tab'. As long as I dont click on the new tab too
soon, the page will load fine.

I've not found a work around in IE6, clicking on a link will sometimes work
but most of the time it won't load the page at all, it will simply say
'Done' at the bottom left. Sometimes it'll load the background colour of the
new page and stop, sometimes it'll load the tables and not the images,
sometimes it'll load everything but stop half way through an image. In all
cases, it seems like something interupts the request for the page or it
already thinks the web page is displayed.

I've obviously cleaned my cache a number of times, but to no avail.

Sometimes the navigation will completley fine for a few minutes, other times
it'll be shocking... I've attached a couple of examples:

I've experienced this with Firefox, but never with IE..

About the only other suggestion I can offer is to go to Tools =>
Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings. Make sure that
nothing is checked in this area (for Proxy or autoconfig). See if
this makes a difference...

Have a pleasant day.
