When I open a Web page it displays in code view only. I cannot switch to
design, split or preview view because they are not available. What can I do
to change this?

split view indicates 2003.

you can change the properties by going to tools/ options/ configure editors
tab. you'll want open with FrontPage (as html).

btw; what file types are doing this for you?

I remember that. oddly enough I've got to actually look on my 2003
installation since it's not something that I do often enough to remember
without looking.

Hi! In FP 2003 I'm having this same problem--pages only open in code view,
with no page sub-toolbars (design, split, code, preview). I've checked my
editor and it is correct. This just started happening so I assume I made an
inadvertant change to something. Happens on several different webs. Even
when opening from the server. A new page does have these sub-toolbars until
the page is closed and reopened, then they're gone! I've unloaded, used MS
cleanup, reloaded FP2003 and checked for updates. The only work-around is to
open page in IE, then press edit in FP button and the sub-toolbars appear
until file is closed. Go figure! Any and all help will be appreciated.
Thnx, ja

Is it remotely possible you changed FP to only open pages in text mode
Tool Options Configure Editors
- select html under extensions and the option FP Open as Html (set it as the default if it is not)

THANK YOU!! I don't know how I changed it, but this fixed my problem. I
knew it had to be something very basic, although I don't remember changing
anything on that menu. I was showing FP operations to a person that I hope
to hand off a web to and perhaps they mussed into this menu. Don't care--it
is fixed now. Stefan--you're my hero for 2005! thnx, ja

You're welcome
I probably would have thought of it a long time ago if you mentioned (or if I noticed if you did mention it) that all worked fine
and then broke all of a sudden
