Web Page Develpment

Does any one know of a freeware program that works something like Microsoft
Front Page? I would like to make some fairly simple web pages and I don't
know any HTML so would like a graphical interface to work with.

Thanks
Brian

There are lots of WSYIWYG HTML editors available. One that I like and
use often is Nvu, which is available for Linux and Windows:

It is similar to the Composer component of Mozilla and Netscape.

Internet Explorer FrontPage Express (usually installed with the
Windows OS)

OR

Mozilla browser suite with webpage editing program called "Composer".

From personal experience I would recommend against Frontpage
Express, as it produces horrible non-standard HTML code. I recently
cleaned up another simple webpage of a coworker made in Frontpage,
and it went from 26kb to 4kb without a single change in the rendered
page.

If the OP really needs to stick with WYSIWYG, go for Nvu (as other
suggested), since at least it has a commitment to producing
standards-compliant and clear HTML. Else, I'd recommend learning a
bit of HTML (not very hard!) and hand-coding the pages.

Wald

I'll second that - Composer is straightforward and easy to use. Download
the newly released Moz 1.7.5 here, go for the custom install, and choose
Mail&Newsgroups; you will also get Composer.
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.7.5/

This will give you Composer plus a really great browser and email
client, and they all work together well.

Nvu is the stand-alone version of Composer, http://www.nvu.com, as Firefox
and Thunderbird are also now stand-alone Mozilla suite modules.

Blink from Wojanware is nice and has become freeware. It is somewhat
similar to FrontPage with a Preview screen, HTML screen, and Browser
screen.

I like NVU, but it's not without a few quirks and bugs.

If you already use OpenOffice.org, it has a decent WYSIWYG HTML editor. In
fact it's presently my favorite.
