web hyperlinks

I am not able to use hyperlinks in email I receive nor in programs such as
Exel. I have checked my internet settings but cannot figure out why they are
not working. My internet connection is working. I can copy and paste to go
to sites, but I can't link directly to them through hyperlinks.
