Web drives

Does anyone know of a freeware utility that will do the same job as the
commercial product WebDrive - allow FTP, SFTP or WebDAV servers to have a
drive letter assigned, so it ought to be possible to back-up a local
disk-based web from FP 2003 to a disk-based web on the remote host, just as
if publishing to a local disk-based web (though slower...)?

TIA,

Thanks, Chris. I did actually know that. I've taken to developing on a
local disk-based web because DWT updates go through all DWT linked pages
automatically - not so on web-based sites. Silly reason, but there you are
:)

Thanks anyway,

I wonder if you access it on the server by it's actual machine path you'll
still get the refusal to update the DWT's.
Can you change your DWT on the server, then hit tools/ recalculate
hyperlinks to force an update even when accessing it via htt://?

When accessing an extended server-based web using http:// address the
DWT will not update all attached pages except those pages that are
also open. Recalculating Hyperlinks will not update pages from a DWT
in any web - whether disc, extended server or WSS.

If you open a server based web as a disc based web (use a mapped
drive) then it will behave as a disc based web. However, the web has
to be recalculated when it is opened as disc-based, and again when
opened as server-based. And sometimes you have to repair the
extensions afterwards as well.

yeesh,
that's something to think about when contemplating using dwt's in place of
FrontPage include files as a kind of "templating".

I didn't realize the process was so "sticky".
