Nick

Hi. I would like to add a web discussion page for an on-
line newsletter. I would like to have visitors add their
comments posted on the website. Any ideas how? Does my
host need Microsoft Sharepoint?

Thanks.

You host only need to have the FP2000/FP2000 extensions. You can access the
FP Discussion Web from File Menu | New | Web | Discussion Web and suggest
that you set it up as a subweb, if your host allows subwebs.

Great. Thanks. So I will set-up the Discussion Web page.
Please confirm how I make that web a sub web. Set it up
and right click in folder view and select make a web?
Thanks for your help. Nick

When you go to add the discussion web, enter the location as:

<currentopenwebpathandname>/subwebname

Thomas, can you lead me to another discussion program that is relatively
easy to set up with FrontPage 2003? I've used the FP discussion but I'd like
something more fun and manageable without the big cost and advertisements.
Thanks!

Others will depend on the OS your site is hosted on, and what database and
server-side scripting your host supports or is willing to support.

You have choices available in ASP, ASP.net, PHP and CGI-Perl

Just do a search in the IE address bar as (example):

? ASP Forum application script

thanks Thomas,
I've been searching and not coming up with my desires too easily. :-)
Your suggested text should narrow it down some.
One site would need probably CGI as it does not have access to a database
connection. One site does have database connectivity and plenty of storage.
I suspect asp would use the database?
Thanks again.

Deb,

All forum applications will require a database of some kind, either MySQL
(Unix/Linux), MS SQL and Access (Windows IIS)

I've had good luck with these - support for both is great!

This one is .asp

http://forum.snitz.com/

This one is .php

http://www.phpbb.com/

Both are FREE. Both have some distinct features. Both
require patience to set up if your not familiar with
making a database connection. (once you get going you'll
be all set though.) Find out if your host supports .asp
or .php before you decide...

Good luck

This one is cgi/perl and has great support. It's free and works for Win or
UNIX.
http://www.yabbforum.com/ It was super easy to set up on UNIX, have not
tried it on Win. You should be comfortable chmod-ing files (setting file
permissions) on UNIX if you try it, although their forum provides excellent
support if you're not. It's easy to customize too.

There is also a working example on my site.
