We use IIS 5.0 on a Windows 2000 server with virtual
directories to access our office network from remote
locations. The server does not allow anonymous logons.
Each remote user adds a network place to their computer
using the format "http://212.32.44.55/directoryname" and
then logs on using their windows ID, password and domain
name. This works fine with Windows 2000 Pro machines.
Windows XP home does not issue the same logon screen after
the user connects. It doesn't have a box to type the
domain name and keeps the user from authenticating. Please
help us get these Home users logged in!!!!! Thanks - Aidan

Hi Aidan,
With only 2 login lines (user name & password), the format
for domain and user authentication is
DOMAINNAME\user name OR (e-mail address removed).
Either format works, but I always tell my users to do it
the first way since that's easier. Their password goes on
the password line by itself.

Hope that is the answer for you.

Thanks for your help. I tried both methods of logging in
and tried several different domain user IDs with no
success. It just doesn't want to let the XP Home users in!
The Pro users have no trouble at all. I tried every
combination of domain name, including the dotted decimal
IP address - still n.g. I'm sure that there is something
that I'm just missing here - but of course, I'm REALLY
missing it :-). Thanks again - Aidan
